Queensland Health Case Study

Caboolture Hospital Case Study 1

Caboolture Hospital faced limitations in backup energy due to constraints on its existing Detroit 840kVA “black change” emergency generator.
Velocity Energy was engaged to install a new Cummins 1400kVA generator, refit the existing generator control system for load sharing across both generators, ensure system reliability, and conduct power interruption-free testing with the mains grid.

What we did

  1. Initial consulting:
By conducting a site visit and audit, we successfully addressed technical issues and greatly improved the reliability of the existing generator.
  2. Designed, built and installed remote control interface:
We installed an advanced control solution to allow parallel operation testing and recovery of supply.
  3. Design and installation of an aggregation, scheduling and dispatch system:
We provided a metering solution that enabled a revenue stream from connection to the grid.
  4. Transition to bio-fuel:
We enabled both generators to transition safely to bio-fuel.
  5. Connection to the grid:
We prepared and negotiated the Distribution Network Service Provider generator connection agreement with Energex.
  6. Ongoing maintenance and testing:
We conduct regular maintenance and on-load testing to ensure the generators are 100% reliable and operating optimally all the time.

Project Outcome

100% reliable emergency power generation and an additional income stream.

Testimonial

“Velocity Energy provided an elegantly simple turnkey solution that not only gives us the reliable, increased emergency generation capacity we need but also provides us with a healthy income stream from what would otherwise be sunken assets.”
